The stadium has been in a process of redevelopment since 2000 which started with the demolition of the old Bloomfield Road Spion Kop which was replaced with the North Stand along with the West Stand in August 2002 both these stand together hold 7,234 spectators. A temporary East Stand which seats 5,120 is currently in place at Bloomfield Road that was built for the start of the 2010/11 Barclays Premier League Season increasing the stadium capacity to 16,220. The Jimmy Armfield South Stand opened on 20th March 2010 at a cost of £8.5 million structure and was officially opened by Valeri Belokon and Jimmy Armfield, a bronze statue of Armfield is situated in front of the South Stand.
